Meet the Orange County Team Behind Calder Gate Repair Orange County

When your gate stops opening at 6:45 on a Tuesday morning, the person who shows up matters as much as the tools in the truck. Our Orange County crew is a small, tightly run group of technicians who’ve worked on enough gates across Santa Ana, Irvine, Anaheim, and Huntington Beach to know which hinges seize from coastal salt air and which opener boards fail from inland heat. We’re part of the Relay Home Co. family, founded in 2009, and this Orange County location is independently owned and operated under The Relay Visibility Guarantee. That means every technician you meet here answers to Nico Alvarez, not a distant corporate desk. He’s on the phone, in the truck, and on-site more days than not, and he hires people he’d trust at his own house.

Our People

Nico Alvarez – Owner & Lead Technician

Nico started turning wrenches on gate openers before some of today’s smart control boards existed. He’s the person who answers when you call about a LiftMaster that hums but won’t move, and he’s usually the one who shows up to diagnose it. His specialty is electric gate repair, specifically the wiring and control board side of things, where most companies guess and replace parts until something works. Nico doesn’t guess. He tests, isolates, and fixes, and he’s factory-familiar with all nine major brands we service, from FAAC to DoorKing to Ghost Controls. Off the job, he’s a tinkerer who restores old mechanical gate operators from the 80s, partly because they’re simpler and partly because he likes seeing how long a well-built motor can actually last. He’s the reason our 365-Day Done Right Promise is written on every job: if a repair fails within 365 days, we return at no charge, and Nico personally makes sure that happens.

Marcus T. – Senior Installer

Marcus has been installing and rebuilding gate systems across California for over a decade, and he’s the person we send when a job needs precise welding, heavier fabrication, or a gate that has to swing perfectly level on a sloped Irvine driveway. He’s our lead on full gate replacement and structural repair, the kind of work where a quarter-inch off means a gate that binds six months later. Marcus is BFT and Viking certified and has installed more cantilever slide gates than most crews in Orange County see in a lifetime. He’s also the fastest talker on the team, which is saying something, and he’ll happily walk you through why your gate post shifted before he starts the repair, so you understand what you’re paying for. When he’s not working, he’s surfing at San Onofre or coaching his daughter’s softball team, often in the same afternoon.

Dana R. – Service Coordinator

Dana is the live voice on our phones at 2 a.m., at noon, and every hour in between. Calder Gate Repair answers every call with a real human, not a voicemail and not a chat bot, and Dana is the person who takes your panicked call about a gate stuck open when you’re already late, gets your address, and dispatches a technician with a live, trackable arrival time. She’s been with us since this Orange County location opened, and she knows the service area block by block, which means she can tell you honestly whether a tech can reach you in Anaheim in 30 minutes or whether Santa Ana traffic will push it to 45. Before Calder, she coordinated field service for an HVAC company in the Inland Empire, so she’s used to calming people down and scheduling with precision. She keeps a printed list of every brand we service taped next to her monitor, which she doesn’t actually need anymore, but she says it makes the desk feel official.

Luis F. – Apprentice Technician

Luis joined us two years ago with an electrical background and no gate experience, and he’s now the person Nico trusts to handle opener diagnostics on his own. He’s our specialist on Mighty Mule and Ghost Controls systems, which are common on lighter residential swing gates throughout Orange County, and he’s sharp on safety sensors and limit switches, the small sensors that tell the gate when to stop at the open and closed positions. Luis is studying for his LiftMaster dealer certification, which he’ll have done by summer, and he’s the rare apprentice who asks “why” before he writes down “what.” He grew up in Garden Grove and still lives there, and he’s the reason we get a lot of word-of-mouth calls from his neighborhood; people there know his mom, and they know if Luis worked on their gate, it was done right. He’s also our designated truck organizer, a role he takes more seriously than anyone asked him to.

One Standard, Every Job

Every Calder Gate Repair location within Relay Home Co. operates on the same contract with the customer, and our Orange County team holds to it without exceptions. You get a written price before any work starts, and the number on that paper is the number on the invoice, always. You get a written guarantee on every repair. And if the repair fails within 365 days, we come back and fix it at no charge, a second visit that’s included with every job, not an add-on you have to request. Our technicians arrive background-checked and in uniform, with a live, trackable arrival time so you’re not waiting on a vague four-hour window. That’s The Relay Standard, the booking-to-invoice experience every customer gets, from Luciana at the phone to the digital invoice you pay from a link when the job’s done. Four people, one promise, and no surprises. That’s how we run it in Orange County.
